France beat Greece 1-0 thanks to Kylian Mbappe's penalty

 


France labored to a 1-0 win over 10-man Greece in Euro 2024 qualifying on Monday night.

Mbappe scored the game's only goal from the penalty spot after Konstantinos Mavropanos fouled Antoine Griezmann in the box.

Mavropanos was later sent off for a second yellow card, but France were unable to add to their lead.

The win leaves France six points clear at the top of Group B, having played a game more than Greece and Ireland.

The game was a tight affair, with both teams creating chances.

Greece had the better of the first half, but France came out stronger after the break.

The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Mbappe was fouled in the box by Mavropanos.


Mbappe stepped up to take the penalty and fired it into the top corner.

Mavropanos was then sent off for a second yellow card in the 77th minute.

France had a few chances to add to their lead, but they were unable to find the net.

In the end, they had to settle for a narrow victory.

The win keeps France on track to qualify for Euro 2024.

They will be hoping to continue their winning streak when they face Ireland in their next game on September 7.
